RestorationA fundamental component of the watershed restoration is the voluntary actions of private citizens and landowners. The individuals, working in partnership with federal, state, and local groups improve aquatic habitat and water quality conditions.
Information about watershed restoration is available from three primary sources: the Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory (OWRI), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service (USFS). OWRI, which is managed by staff at the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, denotes projects that occurred between 1995 and 2008, and includes on-the-ground efforts such as instream, riparian, wetland, upland, road, and fish passage projects. Voluntary reporting comprises over 80% of the data received by the OWRI. The BLM and USFS compile and manage information about watershed restoration projects occurring on Federal lands. Previously, these data were maintained in the Interagency Restoration Database (IRDA) to meet interagency information tracking needs under the Northwest Forest Plan.
The Watershed Restoration Tool
You may access restoration project information for the OWEB Reporting Basins from the watershed restoration tool. The restoration tool was created to show the locations of and information from the Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory (OWRI) Database and Fish Passage Inventory data. After you have launched the tool, a map of Oregon will appear. On the left, you will see instructions on how to find project data. On the map, squares denote the locations of completed restoration projects and diamonds and circles denote locations of barriers to fish passage. By clicking on a location, you will be presented with some findings, or attributes, from the projects.
DISCLAIMER: The information contained in this visualization tool is current as of Oregon Watershed Restoration Inventory's calls for data prior to and including 2008. Data submitted subsequent to this may not be included in the tool. Only those restoration projects with spatial attributes appear in the tool. Information about projects lacking spatial attributes can be accessed through the OWRI database.
