Introduction to Reports and Publications

The following links provide access to reports and publications pertinent to the natural resources of this region. Some of items are contributed by local groups such as watershed councils while others are "harvested" from state and federal agencies, and institutional repositories. Each item has been assigned to least one collection list.  The scope of these is noted below. Within each list the titles appear in alphabetic order.  As with any library, this one will grow over time. For help in locating documents not included here please use our "Ask a Librarian" service.

Academic Publications are the result of research and extension activities by faculty, staff and students in academic institutions.

Bibliographies are selective listings of books, reports, and/or articles that relate to a specific topic, region, and/or time period. These are compiled by individuals with subject knowledge/experience, using specific criteria for inclusion.

Government Documents are publications from federal and state agencies representing their activities in the region as well as topical studies they have commissioned.

Local Reports are publications representing the research and assessment activities of local groups and municipalities.

Action plans identify high-priority projects and programs for implementation over a specified period of time. See also 'Watershed Assessments' below.

Watershed Assessments are publications highlighting watershed enhancement activities in the Umpqua Basin. They may be prepared by watershed councils, state and federal agencies, or other sources. Of particular interest are Watershed Council Assessments and Watershed Council Action PlansWatershed Council Assessments are a process for evaluating how well a watershed is working. This process includes steps for identifying issues, examining the history of the watershed, describing its features, and evaluating various resources within the watershed. Typically these are conducted by or for a specific watershed council. Watershed Council Action Plans establish a unified, holistic approach to protect, enhance and restore the natural resources in a particular watershed. Action plans identifies high-priority projects and programs for implementation over a specified period of time.

Other Publications and Reports include a diversity of content including overviews and white papers about specific topics related to the region.

Key Archival Documents are archival reports, maps, and films about fish and water that met a high priority preservation need for the Partnership for the Umpqua Rivers.
